Can adults learn figure skating?

3

Absolutely! It's never too late to learn to skate. Many of my students begin as adults with little or no skating experience. Whether your goal is to skate confidently for fun, improve your fitness, or work toward advanced figure skating skills, private lessons are tailored to your individual goals and learning pace. My coaching approach creates a supportive environment where adult skaters can build confidence while progressing safely.

YChildren can begin learning the fundamentals of figure skating as young as 3 to 5 years old, depending on their interest, attention span, and comfort on the ice. Lessons focus on building balance, coordination, confidence, and strong skating fundamentals in a fun, encouraging environment. Every child develops differently, so I tailor each lesson to meet them where they are.

No. Beginners are welcome to start with rental skates available at most rinks. Once you decide you'd like to continue skating regularly, I recommend investing in properly fitted figure skates that provide the support and comfort needed for skill development. I'm happy to recommend trusted brands and help guide you through the fitting process. I am also a retail rep for GRAF Figure Skates and can get you set up with a full set of new skates to order.

Everyone progresses at a different pace based on factors like age, athletic background, consistency, and practice time. Most beginners notice significant improvements in balance, confidence, and basic skating skills within the first few months of consistent lessons. Figure skating is a journey, and every milestone builds the foundation for future success. In 3-6 months you can very much so master basic skating skills & feel confident getting on the ice with consistent 2-3x weekly skating lessons and practice.

Dress in comfortable athletic clothing that allows you to move freely while keeping you warm. Leggings, athletic pants, long sleeves, light layers, gloves, and tall socks are all great choices. Avoid bulky coats or clothing that restricts movement. However do bring a warm coat as a layer incase you get cold, puffer coats are recommended. Helmets & kneepads are recommended for young children and beginner skaters for added safety.

Yes! I coach skaters of all levels, from beginners to competitive athletes. With experience as an international competitor and professional performer, I provide technical coaching, choreography, jump and spin development, performance training, competition preparation, and off-ice conditioning. Lessons are customized to help each skater reach their personal and competitive goals.

Definitely! Private lessons are one of the fastest ways for beginners to build strong fundamentals because each lesson is completely personalized. You'll receive one-on-one instruction focused on proper technique, confidence, and steady progression without having to keep pace with a group class. Beginners of all ages are welcome.

Yes! I primarily coach private figure skating lessons in Brooklyn and also work with students in and from Manhattan. If you're unsure whether I coach at your preferred rink, feel free to reach out. I'm happy to discuss location availability and find the best option for your skating goals.

The ideal schedule depends on your goals. Recreational skaters often make great progress with one to two lessons per week, while students working toward tests, competitions, or accelerated improvement may benefit from three or more lessons each week. During your first lesson, we'll discuss your goals and create a training schedule that's realistic and effective for you.

Consistency is one of the biggest factors in improving your skating. I generally recommend practicing at least one to three times per week outside of your private lessons. Even shorter practice sessions can make a significant difference when they're focused and intentional. Competitive skaters are expected to skate five to six times per week. I'll provide practice recommendations after each lesson so you know exactly what to work on between sessions.

Booking your first lesson is easy! Simply visit the Book Now page on my website and choose the lesson type that best fits your goals. New students are welcome at every level, from complete beginners to competitive skaters. If you're unsure which lesson is right for you or have questions before booking, feel free to contact me at: 213-798-4634. I'm happy to help you get started.

I understand that schedules can change. To avoid being charged for your lesson, cancellations or rescheduling requests must be made at least 24 hours in advance. Changes made with less than 24 hours' notice may be charged the full lesson fee. My cancellation policy allows me to respect the time reserved for every student while maintaining my coaching schedule.

Yes! Semi-private lessons are available for two skaters of similar age and skill level who want to learn together. These lessons are a great option for siblings, friends, or training partners looking to receive personalized coaching while sharing the experience. Semi-private lessons combine individualized instruction with the motivation and fun of learning alongside someone else.

Absolutely! Siblings and friends are welcome to participate in semi-private lessons as long as they are at a similar skating level. Learning together can make lessons more enjoyable while still allowing each skater to receive individualized feedback and coaching. If you're unsure whether a semi-private lesson is the best fit, I'd be happy to help determine the right option for your group.

Yes! I work with skaters preparing for competitions, performances, exhibitions, and U.S. Figure Skating tests. Coaching includes technical skill development, jump and spin technique, choreography, program performance, mental preparation, and competition strategy. Whether you're preparing for your first event or working toward higher competitive goals, lessons are tailored to help you perform with confidence and reach your full potential.

Yes! Off-ice training is an excellent way to improve your performance on the ice. These sessions focus on strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, jump technique, endurance, and injury prevention to help skaters develop faster and perform with greater confidence. As both a figure skating coach and Certified Master Personal Trainer, I create customized off-ice programs that complement your skating goals and support long-term athletic development.

I'd love to help you get started on your skating journey! If you have questions about private lessons, semi-private lessons, off-ice training, scheduling, or which program is the best fit for you or your child, I'm happy to help.
